    Tuscaloosa is located in West Alabama where the Appalachian Range tapers and meets the coastal plain of Alabama. Tuscaloosa is 50 miles southwest of Birmingham and 95 miles northwest of Montgomery. There are five incorporated cities in Tuscaloosa County: Tuscaloosa, Northport, Brookwood, Vance, and Coaling. Tuscaloosa, the seat of the county government, has a population of approximately 80,000. Tuscaloosa County enjoys a diversified economic base.
